The reference assembly a track is defined against. Every genomic annotation is expressed relative to a reference assembly, and properties of that assembly — its assembly identifier and the build_sex of the build — are a distinct axis from what the track's content is (Interpretation), how it was processed (Provenance), how it is encoded (Format), or its structural shape (Geometry). This is the 5th ONGA descriptor schema. The build sex carried here is factored out of compound DataType terms like "male genome reference": the male/female there qualifies the reference assembly used, not the biological sample.

assembly

The reference assembly identifier the track is defined against (e.g. GRCh38, mm10). A free identifier for now.

string

build_sex

The sex of the reference genome build (which sex chromosomes the assembly contains). Factored out of compound DataType terms like "male genome reference" / "female genome index". A property of the reference assembly, NOT of the biological sample. Absent means unspecified / sex-neutral combined assembly.

build_sex records the sex of the reference build (which sex chromosomes the assembly contains), NOT the biological sample's sex. Sample sex is a biospecimen property delegated out of ONGA's content scope to PATO.
